Eileen Collins was an Air Force test pilot before being selected by NASA as an astronaut. She was the first woman pilot and first woman commander of a space shuttle. A Veteran of four shuttle flights, she has logged more than 872 hours in space.

While providing ground support for troops in contact, Kim Campbell’s A-10 was rocked by anti-aircraft fire causing the loss of all hydraulics. Rather than bail out over Baghdad, she converted to manual control and nursed her plan back to safety. Kim was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for her actions that day.
